The people in the western region of Afghanistan, especially in Herat city, comprising those displaced from different provinces of the country and returnees from neighboring countries like Iran, are in dire straits and most of them cannot even meet their basic needs like food and shelter.
To help the community meet their basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, medicines, and utilities, the HBDO organization implemented a cash distribution project funded and supported by the War Child UK organization. The main purpose of the project was to alleviate financial burdens and provide support during times of need for the most vulnerable households in the Karokh district of Herat province.
In this project, a total of 92 households from villages like Deh Zerak, Nasir Abad, Qadir Abad, Ahmad Abad, and Band Malik were surveyed which were primarily selected from the following categories:
- Female-headed
- Elderly-headed
- Orphans
- IDPs
- Returnees, etc.
After the completion of the beneficiary survey process, WCUK conducted the beneficiary selection and identification process of 87 eligible households to receive cash assistance.
Then the selected beneficiaries who were the most vulnerable households in the target community received cash assistance through the cash distribution process. The project started on July 17, 2023, and ended on August 17, 2023. The completion of the cash distribution process marked the end of the project.
This initiative demonstrates the efforts of the HBDO organization and War Child UK in addressing the pressing needs of vulnerable populations in the Karokh district of Herat province. The project’s focus on cash assistance aimed to provide immediate relief and support to those in dire straits.
